Throughout the site you will see these XML and JSON icons indicating that database contents can be extracted and downloaded as an XML file or a JSON file, respectively.
XML icons appear:
On the Language Index page, where a list of all languages (with geographical metadata) may be downloaded, as well as any individual language (without geographical metadata, but with their lexemes).
On the Language Tree page, where a list of all descending languages (including lexemes) of a node may be downloaded.
On the Typological Grid Index page for a specific focus area, where a record of all recorded typological features for that focus area may be downloaded.
On the Word List Index page, where an individual word list with all its items and connected lexemes may be downloaded.
On this page, where you can download an extract of the lexical part of the database (note that this file is quite big and may take some time to be compiled): . This extract includes all lexemes and their etymological relationships (with their sources), the word lists they appear in and the languages they belong to. The etymological connections form a directed graph of lexemes that may contain cycles.
JSON icons appear:
On the Language Tree page, where the tree structure may be downloaded.
On the details page of a individual lexeme or etymological link, where the etymological connections of a lexeme may be downloaded.
Furthermore, some maps will have a save button on them, which allows the user to download the GeoJSON data with which the map was drawn.
The internal structure of all of these files is specific to the particular data contained within them and this structure may be subject to change.
