1. PGm. *arhwō- f. ‘arrow’ < proto-form. *h₂erk-uh₂- / / 2. Lat. arcus m. 'bow; arch' < PItal. *arkuo-, *arkʷo- 'bow' Further etymology uncertain. Probably a non-IE loanword. Connected with PGm. *arχwō 'arrow', as well as BSl. and Greek words for 'willow' and 'juniper' (MDV).
