"This term is usually treated as a migratory word related with Finno-Ugric *vaś/ske 'copper, bronze' and Sumer. guškin 'gold'... The appurtenance of Arm. oski to this term is accepted practically by everyone... The IE forms of this word for 'gold' are Latin aurum, Lith. áuksas, Old Lithuanian ausas, and Old Prussian ausis, from IE *h₂eus-, and Toch. A wäs m., B yasa n. 'gold' < PToch. *w'äsā f., from IE *h₂wɛs-eh₂-, unless a loan from Samoyed. However, the derivational basis is unclear" (HKM). Note also Cuneiform Luvian GUŠKIN ‘gold’ (HCM).
