"The word was borrowed into Vulgar Latin as *plōvu- (= plovum in the Edictum Rothari), cf. Lomb. pio(vo), and also became the source of Lith. pliū́gas and OCS. plugъ" (GK). Further etymology uncertain. "Probable non-IE origin… A Wanderwort is certainly possible for such a device as a (type of) plough… apparently Central-European origin" (GK).
