Note
OED (1900) says OFr. grappe in the sense 'bunch of grapes' is "probably a verbal noun < graper v. ‘to gather grapes with a vine-hook’ < grape ‘hook’ < PGm. *krappon- ‘hook’. CDB gives exactly the same derivation. However, TLF states that the original meaning of the noun grappe ‘hook’ was extended to bunches of fruit by analogy, "en raison de sa forme" (TLF)
