Note
Baltic *vrpt- < IE *wer- 'turn, bend'. CDB related these words to Gr. ῥάπτω v.'to sew'. But RB disagrees: "Since Myc. e-ra-pe-me-na shows that ῥάπτω does not go back to a form with initial ϝ-, the older etymology with Baltic (Lith. ver̃pti, 1sg. verpiù v. 'to spin', Lith. ver̃pti (vìrpti), virpė́ti v. 'to tremble, shudder, vibrate', Latv. virpêt v. 'to spin with a spindle; shudder', vḕrpt v. 'to spin, turn round about') must be abandoned" (RB)
